I am sure you are just drooling over the doughnuts in my banner!! The kids and I made those the other day and they were super quick and very tasty! I saw the recipe here and she apparently got the idea here. I will post how I made them though. The quickest way would be to use refrigerated biscuit dough, but we only went to Target that day and they only had the Grands and I didn’t want to make them that big. I ended up using a biscuit mix and making my biscuits that way.
Semi-Homemade Doughnuts
- refrigerated biscuits or make your own (I will probably always make my own because I have never been a fan of canned biscuits)
- canola oil
- small circle cutter (I used an empty water bottle)
- toppings, we used cinnamon sugar, powdered sugar and glaze made with powdered sugar mixed with water and a little lemon juice.
If you start from scratch you need to cut out your biscuits and then make the holes in the center with your small circle cutter. Heat the oil to about medium in a skillet. I don’t know how much oil I used because I had to add more after every batch, but you want the doughnuts to stick out of the oil halfway, so you need about 1/2″ of oil.
Drop them in carefully and when they brown on one side flip them over. Make sure to cook the doughnut holes too, the kids loved those!
Drain them on paper towels or I used brown paper bags (I saw this on Food Network once and I always do that). You need to try to top them while they are still hot especially the cinnamon sugar ones. I didn’t care for the powdered sugar ones and neither did the kids, so I think in the future we will just do cinnamon sugar and glaze. You can do the glaze when they cool and it will actually stick better. I dipped mine a couple of times. The kids loved shaking the doughnut holes in a bowl of cinnamon sugar.
These were total hit in my house and we will definitely be making these again and again!
I will post today’s bentos when I get the pictures loaded.
